Australian Shepherd
The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent working dog of strong herding and guarding instincts. He is a loyal companion and has the stamina to work all day. He is well balanced, slightly longer than tall, of medium size and bone, with coloring that offers variety and individuality. He is attentive and animated, lithe and agile, solid and muscular without cloddiness. He has a coat of moderate length and coarseness. He has a docked or natural bobbed tail.

The Australian Shepherd is a breed which despite its foreign name was developed in America. Perhaps some of the Aussie foundation dogs, similar to the smooth muzzled Berger des Pyrenees, arrived in the western and northwestern United States with Basque shepherds, following flocks of sheep imported from Australia at the close of the 18th century. There is, however, little hard evidence that the dogs which arrived in America ever set foot on Australian soil.

Aussies are quite demanding of their owners' time and attention and want to be constantly with them, following them from room to room in the house, and going along in the car or truck on errands. Be prepared to have a true and loyal friend in your Aussie.
