Best Dog Food

Best Dog Food - Pet products You may be wondering what food is best for your dog. Go into any pet store and you’ll see a plethora of dog foods. Which do you feed your dog? Knowing what dogs need is the first clue.

Dogs need a protein amount of around 22-26% and a fat content of around 13-15% in an adult food. Fiber content should be about 4%. A moderate content allows your dogs stool to be firm but not aggressively so. You do not want your dog to have a stool that is too soft. If you notice this look for a food with a slightly higher fiber content.

Most dogs tend to do better on medium grade foods. Not the best/priciest stuff (Innova, California Natural, Canidae) but not the really cheap stuff either (Hi-Pro, Dog Chow). Keep in mind that price has nothing to do with what might work for your dog. Just because a food is listed in a magazine as their 10 best, doesn't mean it’s better than another food that isn't listed. They do no testing of the food, they base their opinions on the ingredients. Some dogs do not do well on any of those foods. The important thing is for you to understand what nutrients are good for your dog, if your dog likes the food and if you’re getting the results you want from it. Don’t think you are a horrible pet owner if you don't buy the most expensive food out there.

Remember, what works for one dogs may not work for your dog. Buy the smallest bag you can find of what you want to start trying and if the dog doesn't eat it or you don't like the results, then you aren't out much and you can donate the rest to a shelter. You might have to try several brand before you find the one that’s right for you and your dog but in the end you will both be happy for the time spent!
