You also get a dog who's likely to be free of genetic defects common to certain purebred dogs. Mixed breeds, in fact, are often considered the more "natural" dog. When you take home a mixed breed, you take home a totally unique companion.

Lastly, before you get a dog ask a dog owner if you could spend some time with their dog, a day or even a weekend. This will give you a chance to see what life with a dog is like and help you decide if taking on this responsibility is right for you!
