If your cat seems to have difficulty urinating, is urinating very little, or is urinating in places other than the litter box, often on hard surfaces, then check to see if there are tiny crystals in the urine. Typically these symptoms are caused by Feline Urologic Syndrome (FUS) or Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), a common form of cystitis, which is an inflammation of the urinary bladder.
Typically cats are treated for this disease according to their specific changes in urine. The most important step after you discover crystals in your cat’s urine is to have the crystals analyzed. After a urinalysis, your veterinarian can determine the proper medication, and if neither a bladder stone nor urethral obstruction is present, then this should be enough to relieve the problem.
It is a recurring problem, though. To help prevent another episode of these crystals, make sure to keep your cat on a healthy diet.
