House Training Checklist

House Training Checklist - Pet Care Information

House Training Checklist - Pet productsOne of the most important things you’ll teach your dog is also the one most people dread house training. One of the most important things you’ll teach your dog is also the one most people dread, house training.

Following is a house training checklist that will increase the chances of having an easier house training experience for both you and your new dog:

1. Most experts agree that buying a pup from a reliable breeder who has taken the time to start pups on the right track and who keeps the whelping box and kennel clean will be easier to train.

2. A crate is an invaluable tool. A kennel teaches the dog that there are places he doesn’t want to defecate and it will help him figure out why he’s being taught to go in only designated places.

3. A barrier gate confines your pup to a room with easy-to-clean floors if you don't want him in a crate all the time and you just can't watch his every move.

4. Papers, Piddle Pads and a Piddle Pad Tray are a must if you're training your pup to go inside.

5. Food is a great motivator. Every time the dog does a good thing he should immediately be rewarded with a treat.

6. Feeding on schedule helps your pup's body get used to having to relieve himself on schedule.

7. Make sure you have a good cleaner in case of “accidents.” Taking the smell out of the carpet is very important so the dog doesn’t go in the same place again.

8. Get a lead and collar so he can relieve himself under your control and so you can train your pup to go in a certain area of the yard.
