The Pug is a miniature mastiff, with boxy head, large bone and typically thick, wrinkled skin. He hails originally from the Orient, where the Chinese have always favored the snub-nosed dog. This little dog could pass for a flat-faced miniature Tibetan Mastiff or a long-legged, smooth cousin of the Pekingese.

Most agree that the Pug originated in China, dating back to around 700 BC.
They were bred to be a companion not a guardian. They were bred by the royalty
and were pampered and spoiled. They have not lost this characteristic. There are many stories surround the Pug, among them one that Napoleon had to call a truce with Josephine’s Pug if he wanted to keep Josephine!

Quiet, but alert, affectionate and patient, Pug’s are true "gentlemen" and "ladies." If they attend too many tea parties, however, they tend to become grossly overweight.
