When traveling with a cat there are a few key things to keep in mind:

1. DO: Bringing food and water from home will help your cat maintain his normal diet and avoid digestive problems while traveling. Bring his regular dishes in sealed container. It may be easiest to have the portions set aside beforehand so that all you have to do is open the container and feed. Always have a bottle of water with you.

2. DO: call ahead to make sure pets are allowed where you’ll be staying. Many places (including campgrounds) do not allow pets. Make sure it's OK to bring your pet before you leave.

3. DO: make sure your cat's nametag is up-to-date and readable.

4. DO: bring your cats toys!

5. DO: Pack a first aid kit for your cat. It is always a good idea to have one handy, just in case.

6. DO: Provide plenty of exercise before you leave.

7. DO: Stop often during long trips to allow cats to get exercise outside of their crates, and to relieve themselves.

8. DO: Have your cat travel on an empty stomach. Car sickness is more likely if your cat has a full stomach. If the trip is long, feed a smaller amount than normal at least two hours before you leave.

9. DO: Restrain your pet during travel in either a pet cat seat, cage or crate. It is the safest way to travel for both you and your cat.

10. DON’T: EVER LEAVE YOUR CAT IN A HOT CAR even if you park in the shade. Pets are unable to control body temperature as efficiently as humans and just a few minutes in a hot car could cause irreversible damage or death.
